This weekend I was reminded of a poem I had to recite in Pre-K (crazy, but I do actually remember the poem and I remember reciting it in front of the school!).
Puddles, puddles everywhere
I like them quite a lot
Puddles let me splash in them
And cool me when I'm hot
I don't remember who the authored the poem, but if I didn't know better I would swear it was my Logan. He had his 3rd soccer game this weekend. Now, I know there are very few little boys who can resist a good mud puddle, but I found it particularly cute when he purposely kicked the ball in the wrong direction just so that he could run through the mud puddle in front of the other team's goal. At any point during the game you could see all the kids gathered around in a pack trying to kick the soccer ball toward their goal, but Logan was nowhere near that ball. At least not unless the ball was in the mud puddle. I'm pretty sure he gets this from his father. In fact, his Daddy decided to take little trip in the mud puddles as well...
Ok, so that's not exactly the way it happened! For whatever reason, Logan's coach was unable to make it to the game this weekend. Joe, being the sweet daddy that he is, decided to step in and "coach" the team in absence of the assistant coach. Of course, Joe wasn't prepared to coach so he certainly didn't dress the part; he had on his flip flop shoes. After a few minutes of tripping over his shoes in the wet grass, he thought it would be a better idea to take off the shoes and just deal with dirty feet. Anyone who knows me knows how grossed out I was by the idea of this (dirt between your toes? ewww!!!), but I could see his point and thought that if he could get past the gross out factor, it probably was the best idea. About half way through the game the inevitable happened. Splash!!! Right into the mud puddle on his rump in front of everyone! It was hysterical. The only people not laughing were Joe, because he was too busy trying to pry his rear out of the mud, and Logan, because he was mad that his Daddy got to "play" in the mud puddle and he didn't. Logan did cheer up after the game - he got the biggest kick out of his Daddy driving home "naked". (He wasn't actually naked; he wore his boxer shorts and an undershirt.)
It was certainly a memorable day at the ball park!
